How many times have you had limp, fatty, curled up bacon? I finally have mastered the way to make perfectly crispy bacon strips using thick cut brands. Without all the grease splattering all over your cooktop and making a mess. We love the smell of bacon so no problem with cooking bacon in our kitchen, Isn’t that what our kitchens are for? One of my favorite brands and can be found is at Costco “Farmers Hickory Brand” Applewood smoked center thick cut bacon. Another favorite and local here in Marina California, Baker’s Bacon, they even have a Bacon club membership. Check out Chef Tony Baker’s website for everything he offers https://bakersbacon.com/
Ingredients & Kitchen Tools:
1 -2 lb Package of Thick cut Bacon
Foil
Large Baking Tray with Lip
Tongs
Plate
Paper Towels
Preheat your oven 475 degrees, Yes, this seems high but perfect temperature for making crispy thick cut bacon strips.
LIne your baking pan with foil, You could use a rack (Oven temperature would be different) I like this method of baking my bacon in its own bacon fat.
Place each strip of bacon side by side and also around the edges of your baking tray.
Place in preheated oven for 22 minutes, using oven mitts pull tray out and flip over each piece of bacon.
Put tray back in oven continue to cook for 10 minutes, Check on your bacon a few pieces might be ready to pull out. If bacon is ready place on a plate lined with paper towels.
Put bacon back in oven and cook for 4 minutes watching closely your bacon doesn’t burn. Only keep in a few minutes more if needed.
Remove your tray from oven and place the rest of the bacon on your plate. Make sure to lay each piece flat not touching and or on top of eachother line each layer with paper towel. Eat right away or cool bacon and store in a ziplock bag for future use.
Optional: Pour the bacon fat into a jar keep refrigerated up to 3 months it freezes indefinitely, use in appropriate recipes that call for oil, butter. The hint of bacon grease will elevate and enhance your dish. Enjoy, Happy cooking!
