My mother always made Nussecken during the holiday season. As far as I'm concerned always a treat year round. Nussecken a German pastry so easy to make and very impressive when serving. I'm now sharing our family recipe with you so enjoy!
Ingredients: Part 1 Pastry Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 2 eggs
- 3/4 stick unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 3/4 cup apricot preserve
Directions:
- Preheat oven 350 degrees
- Mix all ingredients except apricot preserve
- Line 12x16 baking sheet with parchment paper
- Spread dough on baking sheet evenly, set aside
Ingredients: Part 2 Almond Mixture
- 1 stick unsalted butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2-2 1/2 ounce package sliced almonds
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or a few drops of rum flavor
Directions:
On the stovetop in a large pan melt butter add sugar and almonds. Cook until almonds lightly toasted. Remove from heat.
Assembly:
Spread apricot preserve evenly on the entire top of the dough then add almond mixture also spreading evenly. Bake 20-30 minutes or until pastry dough is lightly brown. Remove from oven and slightly cool. Cutting pastry is easiest when warm. Cut even squares then squares into triangles. Set aside and let cool completely. Prepare chocolate
Ingredients: For Chocolate
- 1 1/2 cup powder sugar
- 2 1/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa
- 1-2 drops almond flavor extract
- Few drops of water or condensed milk
Directions:
- Mix powder sugar, cocoa and almond extract with a few drops of water, mix to a thick runny consistency and use pastry brush to brush each pastry corner with chocolate and let dry on parchment paper
- Makes approximately 3 dozen or more depending size of cut
